Kyiv Oblast Received 33.6 Tons of Energy Equipment from Finland and Lithuania for Winter Preparation

Enterprises of critical infrastructure in Kyiv Oblast have received a new batch of energy equipment intended for preparation for the autumn-winter period. As RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, 33.6 tons of equipment provided by European partners — Lithuania and Finland — has been delivered to the region from the Ministry of Energy's hub warehouses. Part of the aid has already been dispatched directly to Kyiv Oblast.

Structure of the Delivery: Who Provided What

The largest share of the delivery was provided by the Finnish energy company Fingrid Oyj — Kyiv Oblast received almost 22 tons of equipment from it. A further more than 11 tons came from the Lithuanian operator Litgrid AB. The batch included transformers of various voltage levels, as well as diesel generators and sets of circuit breakers. The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that this equipment will allow the region's energy workers to prepare in a timely manner for operation under increased load during the autumn-winter period.

Part of a Broader International Program

The delivery to Kyiv Oblast became an element of broader support for Ukraine's energy sector by international partners. According to the Ministry of Energy, between August 24 and 30, two Ukrainian oblasts received energy equipment with a total value of almost 1.8 million euros. Thus, Kyiv Oblast is among the regions that received targeted aid this month to strengthen the power system.

Threats to the Energy Sector in the Coming Winter

Ukrainian intelligence warns that Russian forces plan to strike energy infrastructure again during the upcoming heating season. According to available data, the threat of attacks may extend not only to electricity generation and distribution, but also to the gas transmission system, as well as gas extraction facilities in Poltava and Kharkiv oblasts. In addition to the energy sector, the adversary may attack other critical infrastructure. The Ministry of Energy assumes that during the winter period Russia may focus its efforts on strikes against water supply systems.

Emergency Preparedness Measures

Against the backdrop of threats to the energy sector and related industries, Ukrainian authorities are already building up material reserves for the winter. In particular, in Kyiv, plans are being laid to create stockpiles of food packages and to develop action algorithms for city services in the event of an emergency. These measures are designed to ensure the resilience of the population's life support even in the case of possible local disruptions in energy supply.
