The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has published detailed recommendations for citizens on how to act properly if shelling catches you on the way — in public transport or behind the wheel of your own car. The urgency of these rules has sharply increased against the background of tragic events, in particular the recent strike on a scheduled bus in Kramatorsk, where dozens of civilians were killed.
Behavior of Public Transport Passengers
If sudden shelling catches you in the cabin of a bus, trolleybus, or fixed-route taxi, you must immediately demand that the driver stop the vehicle. Under no circumstances should you remain inside the cabin, as public transport poses an increased danger and is easily penetrated by shrapnel. After exiting, you should quickly move away from the roadway and buildings that could collapse.
Rules for Car Drivers
Drivers behind the wheel are instructed to immediately stop the car and get out of it, abandoning attempts to escape at high speed. The car itself does not provide protection against modern weapons, and the risk of fuel ignition or detonation makes staying in it deadly dangerous. After getting out of the car, you should find a natural depression in the terrain relief.
Danger of Bridges and Overpasses
Experts and rescuers categorically do not recommend trying to hide under bridges, overpasses, or flyovers. Such engineering structures, under the influence of a blast wave and missile strikes, can suffer critical damage and completely collapse on the people below, turning into a death trap.
