Amid a budget deficit, Ukraine has once again raised the issue of Russia's frozen assets in the EU. Kyiv is proposing partial payments and guarantees to overcome Belgium's veto, which maintains an unchanged position.

Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken stated that Brussels is categorically opposed to using frozen Russian assets for Ukraine: "the door is closed." The statement came amid pressure from Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain and the Baltic states.

The Bulgarian parliament has approved the acquisition of seven minesweepers from Belgium and the Netherlands to strengthen Black Sea minesweeping within a joint NATO group with Romania and Turkey.
