Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the completion of major shelter renovations in 76 educational institutions over two years. Work is ongoing in another 33 schools, and 9 new facilities for 4,781 people have been built. Currently, 55% of Kyiv students study in-person.

The Kyiv City Council's Department of Education has approved the recommended structure of the academic year: the autumn break in Kyiv schools will take place from October 26 to November 1, 2026, although the dates may be adjusted taking security into account.

On the morning of September 11, the Odesa City Council's Department of Education asked parents not to send their children to school until the overnight air raid alert is lifted and to assess their well-being after a sleepless night. For children who cannot be kept at home, duty groups operate at institutions with mandatory sheltering.

Education ombudsman Nataliia Leshchik clarified that at the “yellow” alert level, learning in school classrooms stops and everyone moves to shelter. Where shelter space is insufficient, hybrid and shift-based formats are permissible, and teachers cannot be forced to come to work.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has distributed nearly UAH 500 million among 21 oblasts and Kyiv for the installation of backup power supply systems in schools. The implementation of the projects must be completed by November 15, 2026.

The KCCA announced that Kyiv schools will begin the 2026/2027 school year in a hybrid in-person and remote format. Parents will be able to choose the model of instruction within the options offered by a specific school, while alerts lasting up to 158 minutes a day make schedule flexibility essential.
