On 2 September, Russian drones struck one of Kyiv's universities right during classes, with 160 students taking shelter. Zelensky also reported attacks on Odesa, Kherson, and the Kharkiv region.

On the night of September 1, Russian Shahed drones attacked the Orlovka ferry checkpoint on the Romanian border: hits on the building were recorded, fires were contained, processing was suspended, and traffic is being redirected. The SBGSU notes that this is not the first strike on the facility.

Jet-powered 'Shaheds' with speeds above 450 km/h are almost impossible to physically intercept. Contra-Drone experts point to the need to combine radars and interceptors, while air defense is betting on electronic countermeasures (ECM).

A Russian attack damaged the roof of an Auchan warehouse in Ukraine. No employees were injured, product deliveries have resumed, and the chain's stores are being restocked in the usual manner.

Ukraine's Defense Minister Khmara reported that four interceptors of jet-powered Shaheds have passed field trials and that production is planned to be scaled up to thousands of units, against a backdrop of Russia's increased launches reaching 2,500 drones per month.

According to WSJ, new jet-powered "Shaheds" in Russian attacks on Ukraine reach speeds of up to 500 km/h — three times faster than before. China played a key role in their creation, supplying engines and components.

On the night of August 21, Russia launched 135 strike drones at Ukraine from seven directions. Air defense forces intercepted 107 targets, with hits recorded in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Odesa regions.
