Russian strikes on the logistics centers of the largest supermarket chains have caused food shortages in Kyiv. The Agrarian Policy Minister estimates price growth at 2.5%, while business puts it at up to 15%.

Auchan stores have introduced purchase limits on groceries and eggs — up to 6 units or 6 kg per receipt. The chain explained the measures as a separation of retail and wholesale purchases, not a shortage.

Ukraine sowed a record-low 162,000 hectares of sugar beets — the minimum in the entire history of its independence. No sugar shortage is expected in the 2026/27 season; exports are estimated at 300,000 tonnes.

Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysocky stated that citizens should keep a one-week supply of food, but there is no critical shortage. He estimated the business losses from the August 5 attacks on warehouses at tens of billions of hryvnia.

Deputy Economy Minister Taras Vysotsky stated that there is no shortage of socially significant food products in Ukraine, however Russian strikes on distribution centers are causing temporary disruptions in the delivery of goods to stores.

On September 2, the head of the Kharkiv OVA, Synieubov, stated that, following a series of Russian strikes on warehouses and logistics, there are no problems with the availability of food products on supermarket shelves in the region.

RBC-Ukraine experts explained that after the strikes on retailers' warehouses there will be no physical shortage, but delivery could take up to a week, and prices on basic products will rise due to logistics.

Russian strikes on retail distribution centres in Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions have caused temporary supply disruptions. Experts rule out a physical shortage but warn: prices will rise this very autumn, and some products will temporarily disappear from shelves.

Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy stated that, despite the destruction of up to 90% of warehouse capacity, there is no systemic shortage of basic food products: retail is restructuring logistics and relocating stock.

Taras Vysotsky, the Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, stated that after strikes on distribution centers, there will be no physical food shortage, but short-term delivery disruptions and a reduction in assortment are possible.
