On August 27, Zaporizhstal was hit by five missiles and production was halted. MP Magomedov warned: without urgent decisions by the Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine could lose its metallurgy by spring — losses are estimated at $1 billion in exports and 17 billion hryvnias in the budget.

On the night of August 27, Russia again struck Zaporizhstal with missiles, hitting the same spot as the previous deadly shelling. The plant is fully halted, and Ukraine's metallurgy is on the brink.

The strikes of August 11 and 16 halted Zaporizhstal and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih — 72% of steel production in Ukraine. By the end of 2026, output could fall by 2 million tonnes.
